Harrisburg/Hershey/Lebanon Corridor

Planning for the  Harrisburg/Hershey/Lebanon Corridor, the second corridor of the five-corridor regional transportation system, is also underway. The 26.8 mile corridor will connect the communities of Lebanon, Hershey and Harrisburg, and ultimately, York. The initial Minimum Operating Segment (MOS) will include service between Harrisburg, Hershey and Lebanon.

MTP has already conducted a feasibility study to assess community needs, infrastructure requirements and explore various transportation options. The plan that emerged from this study is a two-pronged approach beginning with premium bus service that would be implemented immediately and meet short-term transit needs, followed by the development of a passenger rail line along the existing Norfolk Southern main line that would work in tandem with premium bus service to meet the corridor’s long-term needs and provide for future growth.

It is possible, due to the addition of the premium bus service, that the Harrisburg/Hershey/Lebanon Corridor could precede the Capital Red Rose Corridor in beginning service in the near future. The next step for this corridor is the development of a plan to determine the operation and additional infrastructure needs to commence premium bus service.
