About MTP

The Modern Transit Partnership (MTP) is a nonprofit organization, formed in 1997, and is working to prepare southcentral Pennsylvania for the future by supporting the development and expansion of multi-modal transportation systems.

The time to shape our transportation system of the future begins now and depends on your support.

Why Southcentral Pennsylvania Needs a Multi-Modal Transportation System

Residents throughout southcentral Pennsylvania are feeling the pain of traffic congestion on our region’s roadways. In addition to travel delays, commuters are paying more and burning larger amounts of gas as they cope with stop-and-go traffic.

Our region faces strong demand for public transportation systems now more than ever. We are beginning to face severe strains on our highway network.  It has become evident that highway construction cannot keep pace with our anticipated growth.

Did you know by 2020:

  • The population in our region is projected to grow by 27 percent.
  • Average daily traffic on our major roadways is expected to increase by 85 percent.
  • Truck traffic in our area is already higher than in other regions and is expected to double.

And by 2030, our highway capacity will reach its limit, with levels of service ‘F’ on many major arteries.

The time is now to plan ahead for our region’s future. A multi-modal mass transit system promises a solution to alleviate traffic congestion that will continue to increase as our area continues to grow.

Our Mission

The Modern Transit Partnership’s mission is to support and promote affordable and sustainable integrated, multi-modal public transportation solutions that encourage regional economic development, improve quality of life and increase connections among the communities of south central Pennsylvania.
